(girl not included)

Yikes....five grand?!

That's a ton of dough.

And all you have to do to put your name in the hat is sign up for their Tools & Home Improvement emails. That's it. Usually for this kind of money you have to do some sort of stunt, probably involving a firearm or an alligator (or both).

Get details and enter at

Also check out Amazon's new Home Improvement Facebook page here, if you're into that sort of thing.

...and if you are into that sort of thing, make sure to 'follow,' 'like,' or otherwise approve of Tool Snob's Facebook page here.

A Concord Carpenter's Giveaway

DF_cordless_roofing_gun.jpgOur pal Rob from A Concord Carpenter, who actually lives not far from here, is going to be hosting a Duo-Fast giveaway over at his site. The giveaway is going to happen next week, but this week there is open voting on what the prize will be. So go and vote on one of three Duo-Fast nailers and the one with the most votes will be given away.

The contestants are the new roofing gun, the positive placement nailer, and a pneumatic framer. Our vote goes with the roofer. We've been playing around with one for a review (coming soon) and the thing is very cool. Check out our original thoughts on the tool here.

Head over and vote at Concord Carpenter here. Also be sure to check out Rob's Home Improvement Tips section (to the right of the front page). There's a lot of good information there.

Winners of the Sears Gift Card Announced

winner5.jpgThe winners of the two $25 Sears gift cards are....

(drum roll)...

(more drum roll)...

Reader Joel won the card that was chosen by random drawing and Reader Tom walked away with the one that we hand-picked. It's worth noting that Tom didn't win by virtue of his entry in the gift card, but rather because at the same time, he entered the fingernail contest with this...

Thanks to my better half, I got my thumb stuck in a tailgate 2 weeks ago and could neither get the thumb out of the closed door or could I reach the latch. Broke the bone on top of it. I got lots of sympathy for about a day. Not worth it.

We think that you'll all agree that Tom is deserving of the gift card.

Also, this Friday, we're going to stop taking entries on the 'When Will My Fingernail Fall Off" contest. So if you've got the stomach to enter, go here.

Tool Nut's Woodfest 2010

If you live anywhere near Yorktown Heights, New York, this Saturday, you should be over at the Tool Nut retail location for some heavy tool action and a free lunch. It's their big Woodfest 2010 event and it's looking good from where we're sitting (which unfortunately is too far away from Yorktown Heights to make it).

We're told that there are going to be over 20 vendors and lots of new tool demos. There is also going to be a substantial sale going on, including a sale on Festool, which is sort of like the Haley's Comet of the tool world it happens so rarely.

Check out Tool Nut.

Fluke Football Sweepstakes

Since thermal imaging and college football go hand in hand, Fluke, one of the big names in the test and measurement category has announced their Big Game Sweepstakes with the winner getting two tickets and airfare to watch the Big Game in Arlington Texas in February 2011. We're not into college football, so we couldn't tell you the significance of The Big Game, other than to say that it's big. As in capital 'B' Big.

To enter, you need to go to this page and simply investigate one of the products. Once you're on a product page, you can click through to enter.

It looks like the point of the sweepstakes is to merely get the word out about Fluke. It's a smart move too, seeing as Milwaukee is hard-charging in the test and measurement category and they've got some massive brand recognition.

Tool Snob Announces the 'When Will My Fingernail Fall Off?' Contest

Early yesterday, I managed to get my finger caught in a rapidly closing door. It happened around 9:30 in the morning (EST), so if the wind was just right and you heard a frightening barrage of swearing, that's what it was.

Win a $15,000 Room Makeover from ScotchBlue

has teamed up with DIY Network's Sweat Equity on a new promotion. Much like the Sears Ugliest Room contest, they are asking for photos and videos of a room in your house that needs a facelift.

We were stunned and outraged with the winners of the Sears contest and we truly hope that ScotchBlue is a better judge of what really constitutes an ugly room than the judges at Sears (follow our indignation here and then here). Our guess is that the rigged voting of the Sears contest (we're conspiracy theorists) won't happen here because this contest is in a whole different league. Not only will the winner get an appearance on Sweat Equity with Amy Matthews (pictured), but they'll also get a $15,000 room makeover. That's a lot of money for one room. We're not talking a few coats of paint here, we're talking demo and rebuild.

To enter or for more information, go to

Press release with more information is after the jump.

Milwaukee Announces The. Best. Contest. Ever.

milwaukee_tattoo.jpgMilwaukee is giving away free tools for life to the biggest knucklehead on the block. In order to be considered for the prize (which is actually $500 of cordless tools each year for 20 years), you must have some kind of permanent Milwaukee tattoo on your body. Honest truth. The best part is that they've set up a website ( so you can be witness to the insanity. If you're inked up already, go to the site and submit your tattoo for consideration. If you're not, then you have until December 2011 to decide what tool you want to see on your bicep every day for the rest of your life. If you just got home from the tattoo parlor and have a nice, new image of a Bosch Bulldog on your thigh...ooooo...sorry, you're not eligible. No free tools for you.

The deal is that there is open voting which chooses the monthly winner ($300 in 12 or 18-volt tools) and then from those 15 monthly winners a grand-poobah-set-for-life tool pimp is chosen by a judge.

We can't wait to watch this unfold. We can see it now..."hey, the dude with his entire back tattooed just won the monthly prize...maybe I can one-up him by tattooing a bandsaw on my face!"

In all honesty though, this is a great way to reward their most loyal (and extreme) customers, and it's waaay out of the box. Good stuff from Milwaukee.

Go to Milwaukee Ink for more information and voting.

Sears Spend and Get Sale...And Win a Sears Gift Card from Tool Snob

sears_giftcard.jog.jpgFor the remainder of this month which is and tomorrow, Sears is putting on something called the Spend and Get. The principal is simple...spend some dough....and get a gift card back. The hitch is that you have to use the gift card by the end of October.

The amounts of the gift cards vary with how much you're willing to shell out up front:

$10 card for a $75 purchase
$20 card for a $200 purchase
$50 card for a $500 purchase
$100 card for a $1,000 purchase

Sears is also giving us two $25 gift cards (with no expiration) to hand out to you guys, so leave a comment at this post if you want to be in the running for one of them. Just let us know what you'd buy with it. We'll give one away in a random drawing and for the other we'll pick the entry we like the best. So go ahead and enter, it's like free money. We'll do the drawing in two weeks (or maybe one week, if the turnout is good...we're not particularly 'official' here).

Our third bit of Sears news today is that there's another Friends and Family sale this weekend. According to Sears,

Sears' Friends and Family Sale is back on-line and in stores this weekend! Tools, electronics, grills and more are 10% off.

The sale will start online Sat, Oct 2, 8 PM CT until Monday, Oct 4, 4 AM CT. The nationwide in-store sale is on Sun, Oct 3, 6- 9 PM, but dates and times are a bit different in a handful of cities (Raleigh, Cincinnati, Miami, Dallas, Boston, and Seattle). You can visit Sears for more details.

As an added bonus, there's a chance to win up to $1,000 in Sears gift cards in the Sears Family and Friends Sweeps this week! Follow this link to enter the contest.
