Win a Paslode Angled Finish Nailer from Tool Snob (Or a $50 Amazon Gift Certificate)

paslode_finish3.jpgWe haven't given anything away in a while and with the holidays upon us we thought we'd get in the giving spirit and unleash a Paslode Finish Gun on one of you lucky readers. We reviewed the Paslode back in late May and at the time, we thought it was a powerful little gun. Since the review, we've used it a number of times and are happy to report that there have been no unsightly failings and it's become our 'go-to' finish nailer.

To win you've got to do two things. First, you have to be signed up to our newsletter. It's easy, just go here and follow the instructions. If you're already subscribed, then it's one less step you have to do. Secondly, you've got to leave a comment on any Tool Snob article. It doesn't matter to us which one. Could be this one, this one, or even this one. The contest deadline is Dec 14th and the winner will be decided in a random drawing.

Update:You can safely comment and add your email address in the comments section below. When you comment email address is required but never shown on the site. We are the only people who will know what your email address is and if you win we'll only send you one email. If you would prefer - sign up for our newsletter - it's a double opt-in and also SPAM free. Thanks for participating.

Just do those two simple things and you could be the winner of the Paslode Finish Gun.

The gun has a retail value of about $175. It's also part of our 2008 Holiday Gift Guide, which you can check out here.

We've also got a second prize of a $50 Amazon gift certificate. Not bad either....

Our review of the Paslode Finish Nailer is here.
You can skip our contest and simply get the gun at Amazon Here.

Ridgid 2009-2010 Calendar

ridgid_calendar.jpgWe saw over at CopTool that Ridgid has unveiled their 2009-2010 Calendar. It's not exactly "family-friendly," but if you don't mind your workshop looking like the back room at the auto-parts store, it might be perfect for you.

It costs $15 and is available directly from Ridgid or if you purchase over $100 of Ridgid tools at Ohio Power Tools you can get one for free. Details here.

Vote on the Best Vise-Grip Story

1981_buick_skylark.jpgWaaaay back in July, we told you about the Best Vise Grip Story contest. At the time, Irwin was making the call for submissions and now that they've narrowed it down to a handful, it's your turn to take over the voting. The winner will motor into the sunset with a custom chopper.

To vote you have to go to Irwin and register. Once that is out of the way, you can vote once each day, through Dec. 19, and with each vote, you have the chance of winning some prizes as well (plier sets, wrench sets, t-shirts, hats, etc).

We flipped through the entries and there are some interesting ones. We skipped over any that didn't have photos. How do you expect to win a chopper if you can't even muster up a photo? We liked the one from the puppeteer (we're down with puppets) and we also liked the one about the old Buick Skylark, but that's because our college roommate had a Skylark. The car was virtually indestructible and the key was broken off in the ignition. It was eventually stolen (big surprise there). As a complete aside, the 1982 Buick Skylark made this guy's list of the Top 17 Worst Cars Ever.

Check out the finalists and vote here.

Tool Deals Around the Internet

shopping2.jpgBlack Friday is coming up (followed by Cyber-Monday), so we thought we'd troll around and see what good deals are out there. Here's what we got:

Ohio Power Tools has all kinds of things cooking, such as:

  • Free Milwaukee M12 Impact Driver with purchase of 2 other M12 tools. Looks like the battery is not included, but who cares, you've already got all the batteries from the other M12 tools. Expires Dec. 31st.
  • Buy any Bosch Litheon Drill and get a 3rd battery free. Expires Dec. 31.
  • For a very limited time, they are also offering 10% off all Bosch and Milwaukee tools and accessories.

Tool King, one of our other trusted online tool retailers has a few things working as well.

  • 10% off all new Makita tools and accessories. Limited time, no date given.
  • $10 off just by subscribing to their newsletter.
  • 5% off all DeWalt reconditioned tools.
  • We also just noticed this interesting line in the description of their, "we'll beat any price out there" promotion: "...you can use this form if you'd like to make us an offer on a specific product. Occasionally we can offer a better price then what is advertised, but we can only do this if you initiate making us an offer." This is very cool and it means that you can get the giddy rush of third-world price haggling without leaving your own bedroom. More information here.

And of course, there's Amazon with tons of deals and generally low prices. Their steals and deals page is here.

DeWalt Top Finish Carpenter Contest

staircase.jpgDeWalt is apparently looking for the world's greatest finish carpenter and they're willing to load up a lot of people with prizes in order to do it. It's a unique contest in that it's done in two stages and it seems particularly susceptible to huge amounts of fraud.

To enter, you first have to log on to DeWalt.com and set up a profile. Then you have to choose a project category; built-in cabinets, custom stairs, or mantles as well as send them some images of other work that you've done (do this by Sept 24th). At this point, DeWalt will narrow the field down to 17 contestants, who they will ship a ton of tools to, in order for you to complete the project. Then, after eight weeks, you've got to send back pictures of the project. DeWalt then chooses one grand prize winner and showers them more tools, some Carhartt gear and race tickets.

And as far as the idea of fraud goes, we would like to direct DeWalt to the above picture of a staircase we just built.

Everything you need to know about the contest is here.

Got a Vise-Grip Story....Win a Custom Chopper

irwin_chopper.JPG
Irwin has just kicked off a cool contest. All you have to do to enter is send in a little story concerning some experience you had with one of their Vise-Grip tools. Since every one of you should own at least one item in this amazing line, it shouldn't be too hard.

The prizes are where this contest gets impressive. Grand prize is your choice of an Irwin custom motorcycle or $25,000 cash. The runner up gets a $1000 Cabela's gift card, and second runner up gets a $500 gift card. On top of that, all three top winners get a trip to NYC to present their stories. There are also 10 semi-finalists who each walk away with $500 worth of Vise-Grip tools.

Entries will be accepted until October 31st (so if you don't own any Vise-Grip tools there's still time to pick one up), and winners will be announced around December 19th.

At their website, Irwin has some stories up already and they range from the interesting to the...well....not so interesting ("Love my Irwin vise-grip tool - use it at least once a week for something").

Contest information is here.

Dremel Winner Numero Dos

contact_lens.jpgA fella named Robert wrote in with our second winning entry in the Dremel contest. His story follows the old question, "what's heavier: a pound of lead or a pound of contact lenses?" It's a heartwarming tale of someone who spends time planning and executing a project, only to realize that it was all for nothing.

Congrats Robert, we'll be shipping out your Dremel Tool shortly. Here's his story:
