GearWrench Giveaway

gearwrench_hero.JPG

OK, so we're going to hold open the GearWrench contest until Friday (info on how to enter here). On Saturday we'll pick our winners, so if you entered, check your email by early next week. What usually happens is that there are a few people who we contact but never hear back from and sorting the whole mess out and choosing alternate winners holds things up for everyone else.

We also want to thank GearWrench for suggesting the contest and supplying the goods. It's very cool and all of you winners won't be disappointed with the quality of the ratchet.

Also, if you don't win (and even if you do), we're going to have another contest next week, so keep an eye out.

GearWrench 120XP Flex Head Ratchet - Giveaway

gearwrench_hero.JPG

GearWrench has been nice enough to set aside 10 (ten, diez) of their new 120XP Flex Head Ratchet for us to giveaway here at the site.

They also sent one a couple weeks ago and we're nothing but impressed with the thing. It has an adjustable head with six positions, a 3/8" drive and a nice long handle - 11-1/2" from pivot to tip. The rubberized grip is comfortable and the action on the pivot is nice and firm. The head of the tool has a low profile and the toggle switch is even recessed a little, making this a great tool for tight spaces.

gearwrench_back.JPG

The scene stealer, though, is the ratcheting action. The 120 in the name of the tool comes from the number of 'stops' in one complete revolution. This is done with this double pawl mechanism, so there are actually two locking mechanisms in the head of the tool. If you click it slowly enough, you can hear the difference between clicks. Our pal Stu from ToolGuyd, took one apart and posted up this video of the gears in action:

So yeah, I've got ten of these to giveaway. To get in the mix for the random drawing, just leave a comment at this post explaining:

1. Why you like the looks of this tool.

OR

2. Your most recent DIY disaster. I'm in the middle of a 2 year renovation and need some support group help. There must be others out there like me....

Either question is fine and doesn't affect the outcome. The drawing is completely random.

If you don't like the looks of the 3/8-inch flex head, GearWrench has the following which should be available at fine tool retailers everywhere:

• 1/4" Drive Flex Head Ratchet in full polish or cushion grip

• 3/8" Drive Flex Head Ratchet in full polish, stubby and cushion grip

• 1/2" Drive Flex Head Ratchet in full polish

• Two-piece cushion grip Flex Head Ratchet Set, with a durable foam storage tray

• Four- piece full polish mixed ratchet set, which includes ¼", 3/8", and ½" drive 120XP full polish Flex Head Ratchets and 3/8" drive 120XP full polish stubby Flex Head Ratchet in a durable foam storage tray

Win Free Festool Gear From Festool Products and Tool Snob

Hat-Shirt-2T.jpg

Our pals over at Tool Nut, a great online tool retailer, also operate Festool Products. We've gotten to know them over the years and they've become our go-to source for Festool gear and whenever we post about a Festool item, we happily link over to them (even though they're Jets fans).

They're doing a little community outreach and have offered to supply a few cool items for us to give away to you guys. Two Festool T-Shirts and Two Festool Hats. Pretty sweet.

So there are two ways to get your name in the running:

1. Answer this question in the comment section: If you could get any Festool product which one would it be and why? Kapex, Track Saw, 18-Volt Drill? Check them all out at festoolproducts.com.

Or...

2. In the comments, let us know if you can think of a funnier sports moment than when Mark Sanchez sacked himself and fumbled off the ass end of his own offensive lineman. If you don't believe us, check it out here:

Oh man, was that hilarious.

So after maybe a week, we'll choose some names out of a hat and be in touch with the winners.

Get all Festool'd up at Festool Products.

Ace Instant Savings

Madden_turkey.jpg

We've been fans of Ace Hardware ever since the King of Football started shilling for them way back when we were in high school. It's a great store. They've got tools, paint, bird seed, plumbing stuff, electrical, free popcorn, toys, ice melt, you name it. We've got one of those rewards cards and it's really saved us some serious money over the years.

We just got word that Ace is altering their Rewards program so that savings are now instant rather than having to deal with them through the mail. All the details, along with where to sign up, are after the jump.

In the meantime, here's a video of Madden at his best. I remember this play like it was yesterday. If you watch closely, you can see the running back's mouth guard get ejected from his helmet. Seriously hard hit. If someone did that today, it would probably be a 15 yard penalty and a $30,000 fine.

Are you really giving away a third Duo-Fast Cordless Roofing Nailer? Is that even legal?

Thumbnail image for DF_cordless_roofing_gun.jpg

Yes, it's true. The second one went to Reader Mike, who said that Roofing is as brutal as...

...momentarily forgetting your wife's name while
introducing her to a former high school sweetheart.

Yikes.

So yeah, one more chance to win one of these badass tools. In order to get your name in the hat, leave a comment at this site finishing the following sentence:

"This roofing gun looks cooler than..."

Cooler than what? you tell us.

If you want additional chances to win the gun, make sure to 'like' Duo-Fast on Facebook. That gets you five more chances at the random drawing.

Lots more information on the tool at Duo-Fast.

What? You're Giving Away Another Duo-Fast Cordless Roofing Nailer? You kuh-razy.

Thumbnail image for DF_cordless_roofing_gun.jpg

We picked a winner in the Duo-Fast roofing nailer contest. It was Anthony who said that...

"An unnecessary airhose on a roof is as dangerous as a guy I used to work with who demolished a roof by cutting through the rafters and then jumped on the roof. He also shot himself in the ankle with a framing gun."

Sounds like an awesome guy. The other day, we heard a story about a guy who accidentally nailed his wallet to his ass with a framing gun. Funny people to talk about. Lousy people to work with.

So We've got another Duo-Fast to give away. The rules are the same: Leave a comment at this site to enter and increase your chances of winning by 'liking' the Duo-Fast Facebook page (that gives you five additional entries).

So this time, finish this sentence:

"Roofing is as brutal as...."

Seriously, we think roofing is totally brutal. It's brutal on your clothes, your legs, your back, and your hydration. The way we see it there are about five day each year when the weather is OK for roofing. The rest of the time it's either too cold, too hot, or it's raining. So tell us how brutal you think roofing is and you might win a slick Duo-Fast nailer.

Win a Duo-Fast Cordless Roofing Nailer from Tool Snob

DF_cordless_roofing_gun.jpg

Our pals at Duo-Fast are handing over a few of their Cordless Roofing Nailers for us to off load onto you guys. If you're unfamiliar with the tool, it's the first legit cordless roofing nailer on the market. This cordless action is good for a lot of reasons, chief among them is the lack of a compressor setup and no air hoses to deal with once you're up on the roof.

Because it can only shoot about 2 nails per second (far slower than a pneumatic-powered roofing crew is used to), the Duo-Fast is meant for small job, and repairs. So it's good for the pro roofer and if you're part of the DIY crowd, it'll probably be the only roofing gun you'll ever need.

We're going to accentuate the cordless nature of the tool, so to enter to win you only need to leave a comment at this post finishing this sentence, "An unnecessary airhose on the roof is as dangerous as..."

If you're drawing a blank, here are a few to get the creative juices flowing:

...applying ammonia-based shellac in a room with the windows closed (trust us on this one)...?

...the guy I used to work with who wrapped wire around his circ saw so the blade guard couldn't close (true story!)....?

...a neck-height tripwire on the bike path....?

Also, if you 'like' Duo-Fast on Facebook, we'll enter your name five additional times in the drawing.

In a week we'll announce a winner and at that time, we'll cook up another ridiculous way to win the second gun.

Duo-Fast has info on the tool here and our original write-up of it is here.

The gun has a retail in the $500 range, so if you judge by price alone, this is a pretty sweet prize.

Bosch Daredevil Contest

bosch_daredevil_1.jpg

It's really not our intent to be so heavy on promoting all of the various tool contests on the internet, but they do make for some quick and easy posts and they also mean that you guys can possibly get some swag. So here's yet another one. This time from Bosch. To enter this contest it looks like you have to upload an image of yourself being a 'daredevil' (which is usually a loose translation of, 'doing something stupid'). Info on how to enter here.

All the contest stuff aside, the point is the promotion of their Daredevil line of accessories, which is a good thing. We've checked out a bunch of them and it's an impressive lineup. The Daredevil spade bits in particular are absolutely savage when it comes to drilling holes in wood. It's sorta like shooting Styrofoam with a shotgun. Check out all of the products here.
