Hardcore Hammer Blunt Force Hammer - Review

Earlier in the year we got all in a tizzy over the Hardcore Hammer. It's a framing hammer with a two part face that solves some of the issues associated with the general wear and tear on a framing hammer. We really liked the thing, but it does get up into that "nearing $100 range for a hammer," which, no doubt, is pretty extreme. Our review is here. So Hardcore Hammer has recently come out with another model that has a little less bling and comes with a price tag that's much easier to swallow. That new item has the appealing name of "Blunt Force." How can you go wrong with a name like that? They sent us one so we could find out for ourselves.

After using the tool on site for a month or so, we've come to the conclusion that you apparently can't go wrong with a name like that. The Bunt Force is a great item. The general look of it is the same as the standard Hardcore Hammer, but it doesn't have the hardened steel waffle-face part. With this one the face of the hammer is smooth. The hickory handle is comfortable and has all the right curves in all the right places.

We used it as our go-to hammer for a while and it worked great in just about every situation we put it in. We did a bunch of demo with it and our only complaint is that the nail puller doesn't come to a narrow enough point to effectively pull finish nails. So we ended up shredding the floorboards with the Blunt Force, but pulled the nails with our Estwing. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning.

And as for the price, instead of $80, this one is $35 which, like we said, is far more palatable. It's less of a hammer, but it's a great item for someone who wants quality, but can't imagine paying $80 for a hammer.
