New PORTER-CABLE® Hand Planer Brings Performance, Ease of Use, Ergonomics, and Dust Collection to the Worksite
TOWSON, Md. (March 29, 2011) - PORTER-CABLE announces the launch of its new 6 AMP Hand Planer (PC60THPK), which incorporates features designed to address contractors' frustrations with performance, ease of use, ergonomics, and dust collection. Ideal for contractors, the new PORTER-CABLE Hand Planer is powerful, easy to adjust, has a low profile, and includes a longer shoe and three chamfer grooves.
"The new PORTER-CABLE Hand Planer offers contractors professional-grade features and specifications with a variety of attachments at an excellent value," said Wil Granger, group product manager, PORTER-CABLE. "After spending countless hours in the field talking to contractors about what they need in a hand planer, we engineered this tool to address common frustrations facing contractors."
The powerful new planer features a 6 AMP motor that delivers 16,500 RPM to provide the finish contractors are looking for across a variety of applications, including planing wood planks, doors and joists, as well as, chamfering or profiling edges. It also has the power to make a 5/64" cut in one pass max. The unit is outfitted with two blades. Depending on the application, contractors can choose between high-speed steel (HSS) blades or carbide blades. While HSS blades can be used in more aggressive situations, such as planing nail embedded wood, carbide blades can be used for finer construction, such as furniture or boat making.
Ease of Use
PORTER-CABLE's depth adjuster has 11 positive stops positioned every 1/16 of an inch up to 5/64". These stops provide the user with the knowledge that they accurately know how much material they are removing. To ensure level and square results, the planer's cast aluminum shoe is 11-½" and is furnished with three chamfer grooves. These grooves allow users to make the most common bevel cuts with ease. Finally, a kickstand under the aluminum shoe helps protect the blades and work surface when the unit is not in-use.
Positioned behind the tool and close to the work surface for control, the planer's handle is equipped with a comfortable over molded grip to reduce any vibration. The unit also incorporates a depth dial with the same overmolded grip at the front of the tool.
For a clean worksite, the PC60THPK features a thick mesh filtered dust bag that captures wood debris and dust particles. A practical, dual dust extraction lever allows users to switch the exit port to the left or right side of the planer which provides flexibility in any application. The dust extraction ports are also vacuum compatible and the unit comes with an adaptor that can connect directly to most worksite vacuums.
Finally, understanding contractors' frustrations with durability, PORTER-CABLE equipped the new planer with replaceable motor brushes in an effort to extend the tool's life. Also, they incorporated a replaceable belt drive system which provides durability to minimize downtime yet can be quickly serviced when needed.
The PORTER-CABLE Hand Planer will be available now through independent distributors and carries a suggested retail price of $89.97. The PC60THPK includes two high speed steel blades, two carbide blades, a filtered dust bag, vacuum adapter, metal rabbiting fence, and a kit box. The hand planer will come with a three-year limited warranty, one-year service contract and 90-day money-back guarantee.
SKIL Launches Next Generation of Routers with New Features and Updated Product Design
SKIL Routers Showcase Pro Features at a Do-It-Yourself Price
MT. PROSPECT, ILL., March 29, 2011 - It seems like everyone these days is looking for products that offer more bang for their buck. SKIL Power Tools' new generation of routers offer just that - professional features at an affordable, DIY price. The new line includes three models for any level do-it-yourselfer or woodworker--Model Nos. 1817, 1827 and 1830. These versatile woodworking tools are designed for a variety of at home tasks, from countertop installation to more leisurely projects like basic or intricate cutting of patterns and templates.
"The updated design of the SKIL routers provides optimal comfort and control for smooth and professional edges," said Rick Bauer, brand manager, SKIL Power Tools. "These routers will elevate do-it-yourselfers' woodworking projects to the next level."
In addition to designing routers that are more comfortable for the user to operate, SKIL understands that routers can be intimidating. Whether it be the semi-exposed bit or loud motor, some DIYers shy away from this tool. With that said, the engineers at SKIL went on a mission to make a complete line of routers that would be more accepted among intermediate DIYers and beginning woodworkers. Additionally, with SKIL's Soft Start™ Technology, users experience less kickback and smoother start-ups when they turn on the tool. Soft Start™ Technology also increases the router's motor life, because rather than jumping right to top speed, the new SKIL routers gradually increase their speed. A long-lasting motor allows the user to complete more projects, which ultimately leads to continuous project success with SKIL Tools.
Additional highlights in the line of SKIL routers include: micro-fine adjustment for precise depth measurements, an LED SiteLight™ for improved visibility and powered tool alert, a one-half inch collect capacity with a quarter inch collet adapter for larger profile applications, dual position on/off switch for user convenience and better control and soft grip handles for maximum comfort and support.
Beyond the features listed above, each router has specialized capabilities to better assist with specific project needs:
* Model No. 1817: 1-3/4 HP Fixed Based Router includes a quick-release lever for easy motor adjustments and removal. This router is perfect for rounding and forming edges, as well as cutting basic patterns in wood.
* Model No. 1827: 2 HP Plunge Base Router features a quick-clamp release lever for easy motor adjustments and removal, a depth rod and adjustable turret for repeatable plunge routing applications and variable speed. This router is perfect for making more intricate cuts and designs in wood pieces.
* Model No. 1830: 2-1/4 HP Combo Router Kit has the most powerful motor for more demanding projects and features both an aluminum fixed base and an aluminum plunge base to allow users to choose their method of routing. Additional features include a quick-clamp release lever for easy adjustments and removal, a depth rod and adjustable turret for repeatable plunge routing applications and variable speed. The 1830 is ideal for more advanced projects such as counter top installation, cabinet building or detailed woodworking.
Accessories can also be purchased to further enhance routing work. The router edge guide, Model No. 91800 attaches to all three routers to ensure smooth and straight edges. The Model No. RAS131 dust hood accessory attaches to Model No.1817 to provide maximum dust collection for a clean work surface, while the RAS132 dust hood is the companion for the No. 1827 & 1830 models.
The 1817 and 1830 routers will be available at Lowe's stores nationwide (US) and online beginning in April 2011 with suggested retail pricing of $69.99 (USD) for the No. 1817 and $109.99 (USD) for the No.1830. The 1827 router will be available in April 2011 at other various retailer and online outlets with a suggested retail price of $89.99 (USD). Upgraded Concrete Surface Prep Kit from Metabo Offers More Power, Improved Ergonomics and Airflow
New system also protects against hazardous dust
WEST CHESTER, Pa. March 2011 - Metabo Corporation, a leading international manufacturer of professional grade portable electric power tools and abrasives for industrial, construction and welding applications, has upgraded its 7" Angle Grinder Surface Prep Kit to include the new W24-230 large angle grinder as well as the standard 7" dust control shroud and optional vacuum.
In addition to 17% more torque than the previous kit's grinder, the tool offers improved ergonomics and better airflow, making it ideal for large area concrete surface grinding applications.
The W24-230 has a rated speed of 6,600 rpm and a loaded speed of 4,600 rpm and delivers a total of 150 inch-lbs of torque and 2,400 watts of power. It is rated at 15 A. The grinder's robust "LongLife" motor extends the tool's service life up to five times over other grinders in its class.
The new angle grinder has a simplified on/off switch with a safety lock-out switch that protects against unintentional starts. It features Metabo's VibraTech (MVT) three-position side handle that reduces vibration levels up to 60% as well as an ergonomic rear handle that includes a vibration dampening system. The rear handle also pivots 90 degrees left or right for comfort during cutting and grinding.
The 7" dust control shroud, made from virgin polyurethane, helps protect users from harmful debris generated in heavy duty grinding applications and surface preparation found in the concrete industry. The shroud opens easily to allow operators to work flush against a wall, eliminating secondary grinding or finishing of corners and hard to reach spots. Molded vacuum ports in the shroud enable vacuum connections for 2-1/4" internally and 2-1/2" externally. There is a punched relief hole in the shroud to prevent vacuum lock.
When used with an optional vacuum, like Metabo's ASR 2050 vacuum, the Surface Prep Kit helps eliminate silica dust exposure in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and ensures added safety and protection.
The ASR 2050 features a soft start, easily changeable pleated polyester filter cassette, automatic filter cleaning, extra large rear wheels and industrial front swivel casters for easy maneuverability.
