Porter-Cable Introduces Seven New Cordless Tools

In May of this year, Porter-Cable is adding seven new tools to their cordless catalog. They're also releasing two new 18-volt lithium-ion batteries (which we covered here). With one exception, the new tools are all 18-volt and they're going to be sold without batteries or chargers, which will be available separately. We discussed the possible advantages and disadvantages of this set-up here.

The oddball tool in the seven tool release is a 12-volt impact driver that is powered by a Ni-Cad battery and comes with a charger and two batteries.

The run-down on the tools is as follows...

From the press release:

Impact Drivers
pc_impact_driver.jpgPORTER-CABLE introduces two new 1/4-inch hex impact drivers, available in 18-volt (PC18ID) and 12-volt (PC120IDK-2) configurations. The 18-volt impact driver also is available as part of a lithium-ion kit (PCL180IDK-2), while the 12-volt impact driver comes standard as part of a NiCad kit. The impact drivers offer high-torque output, virtually eliminating kickback, thus allowing users to take-on heavy-duty fastening applications for extended periods without fatigue.

With a heavy-duty impact mechanism, the 18-volt and 12-volt impact drivers can deliver up to 1,600 inch-pounds and 1,400 inch-pounds of torque, respectively, at 2,800 blows-per-minute (BPM). The impact block is cold-forged to provide maximum durability.

At 6-1/2 inches, the impact drivers fit into tight areas not accessible to larger impact drivers and drill/drivers. To achieve the shortest length in their class, the impact drivers utilize a high-output, compact motor. The impact drivers incorporate a variable-speed trigger to provide a smooth power curve for maximum control across a range of applications and an on-board LED work light to illuminate dark areas without compromising battery run-time.

The 18-volt impact driver (PC18ID) will be available for a suggested retail price of $69.97 (batteries and chargers sold separately). This impact driver also will be available in an 18-volt, lithium-ion kit (PCL180IDK-2), which contains two standard lithium-ion batteries, a lithium-ion fast charger, a screwdriving bit, a belt clip and a storage bag, for $199.00. The 12-volt, NiCad impact driver kit (PC120IDK-2) contains two NiCad batteries, a one-hour NiCad fast charger, a screwdriving bit and a storage bag, and will be available for $139.00.

pc_jigsaw.jpgThe PORTER-CABLE jigsaw (PC18JS) is the only 18-volt jigsaw to offer both a
tool-free shoe and detachable vacuum attachment port. The tool-free steel shoe provides hassle-free transitions from straight (0 degree) and 45-degree bevel cuts, while the vacuum attachment clears debris from the cut path and reduces airborne dust.
In addition, the jigsaw's three-position orbital control adjusts the blade angle to allow users the choice between faster and smoother cutting to best suit the need. At a maximum of 2,500 strokes-per minute (SPM), the jigsaw has the fastest cutting speed in its class, providing a smooth cut with minimal splintering. A tool-free blade clamp reduces the time required for blade changes. The PC18JS will be available for a suggested retail price of $49.97 (batteries and chargers sold separately).

Rotary Saw
pc_rotary.jpgThe new PORTER-CABLE 18-volt rotary saw (PC18SS) offers a tool-free depth
guide made of durable, high-impact composite plastic and is the only 18-volt rotary saw with a dust extraction port. The detachable dust port can be connected to a vacuum hose to reduce airborne particulates. Along with offering efficient dust removal, the saw's fast-moving bit is capable of producing a maximum of 26,000 revolutions-per-minute (RPM) for smooth edges.

With these features, the tool is ideal for making electrical or recessed lighting cutouts in drywall, register cutouts in plywood, countertop cutouts and metal cutting. For increased versatility, the rotary saw includes a circle-cutting template for recessed lighting projects and accepts both 1/8-inch and 1/4-inch shank bits. The PC18SS will be available for a suggested retail price of $39.97 (batteries and chargers sold separately).

Hand Vac
pc_vac.jpgAs the only hand-held vacuum on the market to utilize GORE CleanStreamâ„¢ Armor Clad technology, the new PORTER-CABLE 18-volt hand vac (PC18HV) is drywall dust rated and can efficiently handle the removal of all types of debris from the worksite and shop without clogging. The GOREâ„¢ membrane provides a barrier to prevent fine particles, such as drywall dust and sawdust, from imbedding into the filter. This helps to sustain the long-term suction power of the vacuum, minimizing particulate blow-through and maximizing suction airflow.

The Armor Clad mesh protects the filter against abrasive debris, such as metal shavings and broken glass, allowing the filter to be reusable for up to one year with minimal maintenance.

The hand vac offers the convenience of a 27-inch flexible extension hose and universal adapter, engineered to fit the dust collection ports on the PORTER-CABLE jigsaw (PC18JS), detail sander (PC18DS) and rotary sander (PC18SS). The extension hose comes with a crevice tool for access to tighter spaces. For added convenience, the bowl of the hand vac is translucent to monitor remaining capacity, and the handle is positioned in-line with the wrist for reduced hand fatigue and strain. The PC18HV will be available for a suggested retail price of $29.97 (batteries and chargers sold separately).

Detail Sander
pc_sander.jpgThe new PORTER-CABLE 18-volt detail sander (PC18DS) has the highest stock removal rate in its class, based on platen size and orbits-per-minute (OPM), and is the only 18-volt sander featuring a detachable detail finger and vacuum attachment port. When activated, the sander's high-output motor drives the 19-square-inch, hook-and-loop platen to a maximum speed of 10,500 OPM for superior stock removal and productivity.

The platen is tapered for sanding in corners and tight spaces, and has a detachable detail finger designed for small surface applications. The overmolded, contoured grip area offers comfort and control during use.

For dust management, the detail sander has a detachable dust port for use with a vacuum hose. The on/off switch also is dust sealed for durability. The PC18DS will be available for a suggested retail price of $29.97 (batteries and chargers sold separately).

Area Light
pc_light.jpgEquipped with a 13-watt fluorescent bulb, the new PORTER-CABLE 18-volt area light (PC18AL) draws less power than incandescent lighting for longer run-time with a similar light output. A pivoting handle and base offer users flexible light usage and prevent obstructions in the light focus.

Whether hanging or standing, the lamp rotates 360 degrees to direct the light focus where needed. For secure hanging, there is an open hook to accommodate up to a 2-inch wide pipe. An indentation on the hook secures the light on hooks and nails. The stand also has a wide-stance base for stability on uneven or graded terrain.
With these features, the PC18AL offers best-in-class versatility and performance in portable work area lighting. The area light will be available for a suggested retail price of $29.97 (batteries and chargers sold separately).
