Dremel Winner Numero Uno
Reader David wrote in with the following story and we'll be shipping him a new Dremel Series 300 Kit. Nice work David. We're going to announce the second winner tomorrow, so we'll still take entries all day today. Details on the contest here.
We liked David's story for two reasons; first, we did the same thing once, and second, it reminds us of that creepy guy from Raider's of the Lost Ark.
"My funny but not so funny story is pretty simple and pretty old. It is a memory I won't soon forget and a lesson learned about color. My schwinn chopper had the unfortunate problem of always having a pedal come loose. One day it became permanently loose, fell off and to my dismay I noticed that the threads were gone. Well, I remember watching my brother with his blow torch solder some metal together and enterprising you man that I was figured there is nothing to it. So out comes the torch and some solder material and I get to work. I heat up the crank arm and insert the pedal but no luck. It does not 'weld'. More heat I think. So I apply more heat to the spindle until it is red hot and I add some solder and put the pedal in and still no luck. I rack my brain and think maybe it needs some pressure. The spindle has not changed 'COLOR' from its red state back to its chrome state and I think nothing of it and go to apply pressure with my thumb. Well, needless to say I saw red. The smell of burning flesh and the loss of my thumbprint taught me a valuable lesson about metal and heat and one I will never, ever, ever forget. Years later my thumbprint came back but the memory of that moment lives on forever. "
